Tournament Successes Fall 2020:

LSUS Red River Classic

The Louisiana State Red River Classic is one of the largest fall tournaments of IPDA with more than 25 universities in attendance (November 7 and 8). Ben Feinstein advanced to the semifinals of novice division before losing on a 2-1 decision. Emma Waite advanced to the quarterfinals of junior varsity division. Feinstein is an international studies major in Dedman College.  

SMU Wins Top Speaker at the Louisiana Tech team IPDA Debate Tournament held Oct 17-18

SMU wins top speaker at a major debate tournament. SMU debate competed online at the Louisiana Tech University team international public debate association tournament (October 18 & 19). Emma Waite won top speaker for the tournament among 14 competing universities from Alaska to Tennessee attended the tournament. 

SMU Debate Wins Top Debate Squad Award at Lee College (September 19 & 20, 2020) 

SMU debate competed at its first tournament for this season on September 19 and 20. This tournament was conducted online and SMU’s debate squad won the Mendoza award for which the tournament is named. The Mendoza award is given to the most successful debate squad in the past several years. SMU Debate had the highest point total of any of the 15 universities at the tournament.
